Being Emotional – Right Or Not (Part 1)?

Living a life full of twists and turns and different scenes, it is very easy to become emotionally attached to scenes happening around you and sometimes become disheartened or sorrowful and sometimes even emotionally joyful. Both are normal emotions. Yes we thought so! What is wrong with experiencing pain when I watch an accident on the road and what is wrong with becoming emotional and crying, when I watch a moving emotion filled movie. How can you take away these two experiences from life? The world told us they are correct. When we grew up, we often cried, sometimes in sorrow and many a times in joy. Did you go to your best friend’s birthday and become excessively emotional and when your younger brother or sister went down with fever, you sometimes cried seeing his or her pain. Our parents taught us this is what life is all about – mixed shades of emotional joy and emotional sorrow make up the painting of life. In fact, we grew up seeing them doing that in their worldly duties and we thought it was correct. Now! Wait a moment! Do I like sitting on this emotional roller-coaster so regularly and so much? How can I free myself?

We all look at life’s scenes with an attitude of receiving or taking something from life. We rarely think of giving to life’s scenes. Take the example of the sun in nature. The quality of the sun is giving, it never seeks to receive or take. And it is a powerful force of nature. Let’s emerge this virtue in ourselves. That will make me emotionally powerful inside and I will be lighter, happier and more contented in life’s different situations. So from today look to give to life’s different scenes and filling them with the primary qualities of life – peace, love and joy. On the other hand, if we are trying to fill ourselves with these qualities by taking them from people and situations, we will become emotionally weak.

Respect is to recognize and appreciate the unique role of each and everyone.

Contemplation:Each one is unique with his own specialities. When you recognize the role of each one, you can understand that he is playing his part accurately. Then you can acknowledge even the smallest contribution and you’ll be free from expectations.

Application: When you find yourself having negative thoughts towards any one, make the practice of looking at one speciality in that person and relate to it. Also tell yourself that without the role of this particular person the drama would not be complete.

Carrying Forward Of Special Talents

Everything that an individual does i.e. a soul does using the medium of the physical body is registered in the soul as a sanskara. Sanskaras, therefore, are the foundation of our present personalities and all our special talents and inclinations. There have been many famous personalities including artists, musicians, engineers, sportsmen, etc. who, before attaining phenomenal success in their respective fields, displayed amazing talents related to their respective field at a very young age. When and where could they have mastered these talents so well? It's obvious that amazing masteries at a very young age are not inherited from our parents. These talents have been developed and brought into practice in previous births, as a result of which sanskaras of the talents are created inside the soul. These sanskaras are then carried into the next births, and are brought into actions in the new births.

A more common day-to-day example is the following: A child is born into a family of doctors where, from the beginning, all efforts are made to mould and prepare him to become a doctor, according to family tradition. However, from an early age, the child shows strong tendencies to become an actor, starts to take part extensively in theatre activities at school and the talent starts manifesting itself. This example demonstrates that the characteristics a soul carries from previous experiences of previous births will take it in a specific direction despite attempts made by the family on the contrary. So in short, genius is experience. Some think that it's a gift or talent, but it is the fruit of long experience of many lives. Some are older souls than others i.e. they have been present on the world stage since a longer period of time and have covered a journey of more number of births and so know more. This kind of unlimited, broad vision of life provides us answers to many questions.

When you look at the specialities in each one you can easily cooperate with others and receive their cooperation.

Contemplation:Each and every individual has something special. If you make the habit of seeing these specialities, you will find that others are able to relate to you with these specialities and you can easily get their cooperation. You will also be able to cooperate with them easily.

Application: Think of one person you are not able to cooperate with. Now think of one speciality of that person. Make sure you relate to this speciality whenever you come into contact with this person. As you continue this practice you will find your negativity vanishing away and cooperation becomes easy.

Becoming Aware Of What Is Ego

All of us are familiar, to different extents, with the emotion of ego. All of us don’t even define it in the same way. We are also aware to different extents, about the negative repercussions (effects) of the emotion of ego on us and on others. Depending on how aware we are about the effects, we work to eradicate the emotion from our daily lives, so that it neither disturbs us nor others. Some of us even consider it a positive emotion and feel it contributes positively to our personal and professional progress. To be aware completely of the negative effects of ego and to realize clearly whether it is a positive emotion or not in the first place, it is important to first become aware of what it is exactly. So, how can we define ego?

Ego is attachment, inside my consciousness, to an incorrect image of my self which I then mistake for myself. When the attachment takes place, you lose your sense of identity in the image of the object of attachment which you create on the screen of your mind. That object can be something physical like your body, your physical personality, a relationship, a material possession, your status, money, a particular skill, respect from others, etc. or something non-physical like a belief; an opinion; a mindset, a memory, a particular virtue, specialty, power or a sanskara (positive or negative), etc. Therefore ego is the self attaching to and identifying with an image that is not the self. This process takes place entirely within our consciousness many times in the day, on the screen of the mind. E.g. When we say this is my salary package (something physical) or my opinion (something non-physical), we are (without being aware about it) creating an image of the salary package or the opinion inside our consciousness and becoming attached to it, so that we lose our self identity in the salary package or the opinion, believing that I am the salary package or the opinion. So at that time, the salary package or the opinion becomes an incorrect image of the self to which I am attached. This is ego. If while thinking, feeling or speaking about my salary package or my opinion, we do not become attached to or do not lose our self identity in either of the two, then that is not ego.

When each one is working towards a common task, cooperation becomes easy.

Contemplation:To get others’ cooperation you need to share the task and the information regarding the task with others. When you communicate your motives using easy and simple language, everyone can understand and feel a part of the whole and they would naturally contribute their best.

Application: Any new task that you take up make sure you inform all the details to everyone related to the task. Even the minutest details when communicated to others, helps in creating a priority in them to give their best to the task.

Believe It Or Not (Part 6)!

We are all today living in a world of multiple identities, multiple governments and also multiple religions and castes, which is a very different set up from the united set up which was the set up of the world in the beginning. Because of this kind of united setup, there was complete peace, love and happiness in that land which we call Jannat or heaven or God’s Garden where deities or devi devtas lived. Some of us, who are very advanced in our lifestyles and are more in tune with our fast paced technology driven lives, doubt the existence of such a world because it is not something we study in our educational curriculum or syllabus. Also, many of us at the Brahma Kumaris, especially those of us who have been brought up in advanced educational and family settings, found it difficult to believe at first in the existence of the world of deities or devi devtas. But after realizing God through the beautiful meditation taught at the Brahma Kumaris and developing a lovely and close relationship with God, our beliefs underwent a drastic change and what seemed something out of context earlier to us, suddenly became something we could relate to. Slowly we even went a step ahead by easily believing that this is our story and then becoming 100% sure that it is a hard core reality. Meditation also brought in front of us different sides of God’s personality and as God is called the truth, after realizing this personality of truth and believing that his knowledge about the world history is completely truthful, these facts became a part and parcel of our daily lives. On the other hand other people from similar backgrounds who had not experienced this personality found it difficult to believe this knowledge of who we were in the past.

Some people ask us – why did our thought process about the world and its origins as well as its complete history undergo such a drastic change and why did we take up viewpoints which were not part of our belief system earlier? We remain silent, but our eyes tell them that believe it or not the story of the world starts with those who purify themselves now through God’s power and then go on to become deities or devi devtas. The world of deities has existed in the past and is being established again by the Supreme Father or God. This is the birthright of each and every soul in the world and is the property of God, the Supreme Father for all his children.

You receive cooperation from others when you have a clear aim.

Contemplation:When you are doing something with a clear picture in your mind others will naturally cooperate with you. If you are not sure of what you are doing and why you will not be able to receive their cooperation.

Application: When you want the cooperation of others in what you do make sure that you are sure of what you are doing. Be clear in your mind of what you want to achieve and you will find others helping you.

Believe It Or Not (Part 5)!

When we come into this world, we were completely full of 36 divine qualities - Accuracy, Appreciation, Benevolence, Carefreeness, Cheerfulness, Cleanliness, Contentment, Co-operation, Courage, Detachment, Determination, Discipline, Easiness, Egolessness, Energetic, Far-Sightedness, Fearlessness, Generosity, Good Wishes, Honesty, Humility, Introspection, Lightness, Maturity, Mercy, Obedience, Orderliness, Patience, Politeness, Purity, Royalty, Self-Confidence, Simplicity, Sweetness, Tirelessness and Tolerance.

If you check the above list, you will realize how today none of us have all these qualities and that too at all times, in all situations and with everyone. Try naming one person in your life who never lacks these qualities and you will find it impossible to find someone who is never missing these qualities in his or her day-to-day living and when in contact with people i.e. while playing different roles in society in their personal or professional life. The devi devtas whom we call the ones who were perfect human beings had these qualities and that too in every situation of life, when they lived in the world in heaven or paradise. This was because they were completely pure souls without any trace of lust, anger, greed, attachment and ego and because of that they possessed all these qualities. That was the most beautiful time on the planet earth when these deities lived together as one small united family and there were no sinful actions performed ever by anyone. Even founders of different religions and sects are praised immensely all over the world for their qualities and people all over the world are inspired by the actions which they performed when they played their roles right from the time they started being established. Right now is the time to fill ourselves with the 36 qualities mentioned above by listening to spiritual knowledge, remembering God, self-introspection and helping God in the service of mankind.

Perform every task while in your self-respect and others will continue to cooperate with you.

Contemplation:When you are doing something and you are in your self-respect, it creates cooperation. On the other hand if you have ego because of which you expect others to recognize your work and appreciate it, it creates competition and jealousy.

Application: When you find someone not cooperating with you, check within yourself why you are performing that task. If there is the slightest feeling of trying to prove yourself, remove it. Let there be the thought in the mind that you want only success in the task and nothing else.

Believe It Or Not (Part 4)!

Whenever the world needs a cleaning up of the collective consciousness of mankind, that’s when an inner awakening is required, a realization that I need to change and clean up the cupboards of my mind and become a perfect personality, but a perfect personality as defined by God and not by the world and mankind in general. Perfection has been defined differently by different religions and people from different sections of society. So, which definition of perfection should I as a person, in the search of perfection, choose? Should I pick Jesus Christ or should I pick Gautam Buddha or should I stick to the Indian shastras or religious books or should I listen to my parents for that matter? The more the different people and their different opinions on perfection, the more I will get confused on which road to take to reach my destination of perfection. In such an atmosphere of unlimited views and opinions on what a perfect human being should be and how he should become that and also a lot of us want to know that what is the need of becoming perfect, especially if we are extremely successful and life has given us everything we need and we search for on a materialistic level.

So, who is the One who can guide me correctly and give me the answers to all these questions? It has to be someone whom each and everyone in the world rates as being perfect and who is available for me at the present moment. This is not my parent or a guru or religious head or a deity who have existed in the past on the earth. God, who is the Supreme Father of all souls, can only tell me what is perfection and the method of reaching that perfection. Even deities and fathers of religions who were perfect or close to perfect and have existed in the past are no longer there physically to guide me. Only God, the Supreme Being, who does not go through the process of birth and rebirth can show me the way to becoming a perfect human being with qualities which He has inside Him.

Contemplation:When you are working for something and that task is for common benefit, you will find that others will easily cooperate with you. Also their good wishes help in the success of the task.

Application: When you take up something new and important, make sure there is some benefit for everyone involved in the task. When you do this you will find that everyone will cooperate with you.

Believe It Or Not (Part 3)!

We all respect the devis and devtas who are our ancestors and they are our ancestors in terms of time but in reality, they are our initial roles which we played in the world drama. It may seem difficult to believe, but man came down so much in terms of qualities that today it is difficult for man to believe that the ones he has been worshipping since such a long time is his first, second or third birth or his initial births when he first came down in the world from the soul world to play his part. Today, we are uncertain about who we were in the beginning. God, who has seen the world drama right from the beginning, gives us the knowledge of our original births as deities or devi devtas who were the purest human beings with no trace of lust, anger, greed, ego and attachment. If we were to believe in the existence of the soul, we would logically realize that the soul comes down in its purity level after many cycles of birth and death. So isn’t it very much believable that we were perfect deities and then we became humans with weaknesses, of today? Today we cannot call ourselves completely perfect or close to perfect unless we are working on ourselves internally to become better human beings. When we believe in rebirth and the soul’s immortality, this knowledge about our earliest births becomes easy to believe.

Right now is the time to remain above the difficulties of the old world when we have lost our purity on the soul level and connect with the Ocean of Purity – God and regain back our initial status which we have forgotten i.e. a status of the devi devtas. You might wonder that how we will be transformed back into them. That is the present incognito task of God and it is souls from amongst us, belonging to different religions, who will take up the responsibility for the purification of the world by changing themselves and starting a new beginning of the world. This will be a beginning before which the more than 7 billion human souls of the world will return to the soul world and souls will come back in small numbers from the soul world and the world will start with the birth of deities or devi devtas on the planet earth, what is called heaven.

Your trust in others makes you get their cooperation.

Contemplation:When you have faith in others, they will have faith in themselves too and this creates enthusiasm in them. This further serves to increase self-confidence in the one you are working with.

Application: When you find that someone whom you are working with is not cooperating with you, make the practice of telling yourself that you have complete faith in that person. Slowly you will find that person cooperating with you.
