Who Is Responsible For My Destiny?

Many of us believe that God writes our destiny. We need to pause and introspect on this belief. If God wrote our destiny, two things would happen: First, since we are all children of God, all our destinies would have been equal. Second, as our parent, God would have written a perfect destiny for all of us. Today our destinies are neither equal, nor perfect. We also believed the law of karma which states - As is my Karma, so will be my destiny. Our karmas are not always perfect and we all do not create identical karmas. So our destiny is neither perfect nor equal. We need to ask our self which of these two beliefs feels right for us. Karma means action. Law of Karma is about action and reaction, or cause and effect. Karmic law is constantly working in our lives as Karma includes our every thought, every word and every action. As per the Law of Karma, every action - however small or significant - has a consequence. The consequence is always fair. Right action brings a good consequence and wrong action brings a difficult one. Certain karmas may result in an immediate result. Other karmas may have consequence coming back an hour later, a year later, 20 years later, 50 years later, or in a future lifetime.

We can connect the karma with the consequence in some cases. However when we see the effects of karma on a subtle level, we will not be able to connect consequence with the karma, since the karma might have been performed years ago or even in a past lifetime. So we need not worry about that aspect of identifying the cause. It is enough if we remember that –
(1) The Law of Karma is always accurate and always fair to everyone.
(2) Our present situation is only a result of our past karma. So we are responsible for everything that happens to us.
(3) Our present karma decides our future so we have the power to create our destiny.

We have all experienced the consequences of both right karmas and the wrong ones. Whether we believe in it or not, the Law Of Karma is continuously in action. We need not fear the law but let us be aware of it. We also need to remember that Karma includes thoughts also, not just words and actions. So let us focus on right thinking, speaking and behaving, so that we create a beautiful destiny.

Message for the day 07-03-2020

To search for solutions is to use resources for the right cause.

Expression: Usually a lot of energy and time is wasted to find the cause of something that goes wrong. But thinking about that only wastes the resources that could be used for finding solutions. So it is not necessary to understand the causes but to find solutions. So the one who understands this fact is able to make the best use of available resources to correct the situation.

Experience: Being focused on the solution rather than on the problem, I am able to use all my inner resources in the right way. I am free from complaints and am able to put in effort to do the best in the given situation. I am constantly happy and content because I know that there is a solution for every problem.

Being A Jewel Of Contentment (Part 3)

Contentment comes with increasing your inner treasures and attainments. Whenever you have a negative situation in your life, the positivity inside your mind, which will bring contentment, comes by thinking about your attainments at that time and thinking about your treasures. Suppose you have a very difficult situation in your life, which is making your mind negative. At that time, think about the treasures of inner powers that you possess and emerge them in your mind, think about the good situations in your life, think about your relationship with God. Also, think about your relationships with people close to you and what positive experiences of love and happiness that you have with them and good wishes that you receive from them. Think about spiritual wisdom that you carry inside your mind, which is the key to solutions to all problems. Think about how if you are truthful and are filled with goodness, no negative scene can remain forever. Also, give your time to serving others in different ways. These are some of the ways of experiencing contentment, instead of getting depressed and feeling empty.

Also, looking at the future with a positive perception is one of the most important keys to a stable and content mind. To be disheartened and give up hope will lead you to sorrow and discontentment. Always remember that the more positive you are about everything in your life, the more sooner all the negative scenes of your life will turn positive. Also, the more negative you are about life, the more the negative scenes will become bigger and become a source of sorrow for you, because that’s how you perceive them. So, always think light, think good, think positive and be positive in every situation and be a jewel of contentment, who radiates happiness to everyone around, no matter what your life may bring in front of you.

To forgive is to give correction.

Expression: When there is forgiveness, the harm of the mistake is forgotten. The mistake itself is remembered only to the extent that the correction is to be given. So there are no negative feelings expressed even while giving correction. And the words that are used are few but prove to be very effective.

Experience: When I learn the art of forgiving I am able to be free from the burden of negative and waste thinking. So there is never any difficulty in giving correction when necessary. The mind is free from the attitudes of the past and it creates harmony in relationships even if the opinions or personalities don’t match.

Being A Jewel Of Contentment (Part 2)

Whenever a difficult situation is trying to influence you or in other words, you feel that you are somewhat disturbed because of a negative event, look for positivity within to support yourself mentally. Also, look for signs of goodness outside in everything and everyone, which will keep you calm and powerful. Very often, we let negativity influence our minds and this is the main reason of the reduction in our contentment levels. Sometimes the weakness of another person or a negativity of a certain situation can make us peaceless and also cause our perception and attitude to become negative. So, the more I learn to keep my mind positive by either absorbing positive information or by connecting it with a positive spiritual source, the more I am able to face situations in a detached way and watch it like a spectator.

Contentment is the most important quality in some ways and is the mother of all qualities. Where there is contentment, all other qualities are present. Take the e.g. of the quality of patience. The one who is content, is able to wait for situations or events to unfold and not be impatient. Also take the e.g. of tolerance. Tolerance will naturally be a part of your nature if you are a contented person because the more full and complete you are, the more you will not react to people and situations, if they are not as per your desires and expectations. Also, take another e.g. of humility. The more contented I am, the more I am free from ego, because I am seated on the throne of self-respect, stably and with strength. Self-respect makes me free of any inferiority and superiority complexes.

To do something altruistic each day is to ensure happiness.

Expression: When there is the thought to do something altruistic for someone every day, there is the ability to give happiness unconditionally. Whatever the relationship or whatever the personality of the other person, the one who develops the habit of doing this, is able to remain a source of support for those around.

Experience: The best gift I can give is to give happiness and to finish sorrow. When I am constantly thinking of this, not for any reward but just for the sake of it, I am able to discover and enjoy the fruit of that action. I am free from expectations and am able to enjoy the action itself.

Soul Sustenance & Message for the day 04-03-2020

Being A Jewel Of Contentment (Part 1)

The most important aspect of our lives is living a life full of contentment and inner joy. We all want to experience these two emotions always. Although, both these emotions come from within, at times different situations of life tend to shake our stability and strength and we lose that inner feeling of fullness and happiness. Also, we lose that positive feeling that there is nothing more that I want from life and I am enjoying life to the fullest. This feeling is called inner gratitude for everything that I have in life and no complaints about anything. Always thank life for giving everything it gives you and don’t ever have any worries when life’s situations are a little different from what you expect.

And also remember, inner contentment comes from inner powers and where there are no unnecessary and negative thoughts and feelings inside the mind. Very often, if there is a lack of any of the eight powers - power to tolerate, power to accommodate, power to face, power to pack up, power to discriminate, power to judge, power to withdraw and power to co-operate, there is a lack of contentment and a reduction in happiness levels. Also, if there is any mental weakness due to any particular thought patterns, which emerge inside our minds or a weakness due to any particular deep sanskara or personality trait, then the mind becomes too attached to negative situations. Also, it cannot stop giving them mental energy. This makes the mind disturbed and it loses clarity and focus. This leads to discontentment.

To be clean at heart is to give happiness to others.

Expression: The one who has a clean heart is the one who always tries to do the best for those with whom he comes in contact. Thus, the person develops the ability to accept others as they are and ignore anything wrong done by them. Instead, he is able to do the right action without losing the balance. So such a person brings happiness for himself and for others through every action he performs.

Experience: When I have a clean heart I am able to have an experience of my inner qualities. I am able to enjoy the beauty of the different relationships, each relationship and each person being unique. Thus others are able to get in touch with their inner beauty too. So there is happiness experienced by all.

What Makes A Genius: Acquired Or Inherent Talent?

Every now and then we come across creative or scholarly abilities in certain children whom we acknowledge as child prodigies. They are geniuses at one skill or another. A 4-year old child skillfully plays long notes on the piano, a 7-year old writes complex software code while another recites shlokas from the scriptures at age 5. When and from whom did they learn surprises everyone, especially when nobody in their family is inclined or trained in the same. Likewise renowned artists, musicians, engineers, sportsmen often display talent at a very young age and most of them do not inherit it from parents or family.

Spiritual wisdom teaches us that every action done by an individual upon taking a physical body is registered in the soul as a sanskar or habit. Our sanskars are a sum total of our nature, talents and inclinations. These sanskars are then carried into the subsequent births and are brought into action in the new births. Applying this understanding, the talent in a genius was learned, nurtured and mastered in his previous birth. Being registered on the soul, the talent is carried forward. The soul replays or reproduces the talent in this birth, in some cases in childhood itself. In short, genius is an experience. We think it is a gift or talent but it is a fruit of deep and long experience over many lifetimes. Some of us are older souls than others because we have been on the world stage for a longer duration and hence covered a journey of more number of births. Such souls carry forward experiences that are far deeper and longer than others. This understanding helps parents to encourage innate talent in children instead of expecting them to be the way they want them to be.

Humility is to respect everything that comes our way.

Expression: To love simple things is humility. It teaches to respect all that life brings. That means there is an ability to appreciate and value everything appropriately. So one is able to use everything that comes one way to the fullest extent for the benefit of the self and that of others.

Experience: When I am humble I am able to remain focused on my inner peace and not lose my sense of personal well-being. I am able to simply learn from everything that happens to my life and add on to this sense of well-being. No situation is difficult or impossible to work on, but I am able to overcome all challenges with ease.

Adopting A Clutter-Free Lifestyle

Each of us likes to have an organized life. Cleanliness and orderliness are our original sanskars. So we want everything around us to be tidy – our home, office, work-desk, files on our computer or phone, our cupboard, garden and so on. Many people even have a specific cleaning schedule marked out regularly. Even otherwise, when we look around and find things lying haphazardly, we like to immediately put them in order. But how frequently do we look within and clear the internal clutter? When did we last organize our mind in a way that we can quickly access a thought or emotion we want to use? Our mind is an enormous storehouse of right and wrong thoughts. Sometimes when we are working on an activity, the mind can be caught wandering and creating too many thoughts – either about the current task, about past experiences of a similar task, about people related to the task or about an altogether unrelated task. Even the quality of the output may become questionable. When we do not pay attention to the state of the being while doing, we may not understand why we feel exhausted or took longer to complete an activity.

Most professionals spend 8-10 hours a day at their workplace. We need to pause and observe the actual number of productive hours. It is a good indicator of our emotional heath in terms of the mind and intellect. Some of us are in a habit of checking our phones or computers (internet) every few minutes to read messages on social media and electronic media. So not just our gadgets but our mind gets flooded with information. Information is the source for thoughts, so the mind starts creating too many thoughts of the same quality and that depletes our inner power. Inputs of positive information at regular intervals in the day and detachment from unnecessary information during the course of the day keeps us more focused, mentally tireless and active at every step, bringing efficiency in action.

To be a giver is to be flexible.

Expression: The one who does not expect from others, but is able to give others from whatever resources he has, is the one who is flexible. Being flexible means to be able to recognize the other person’s value system and moulding one self according to it without losing touch with one’s own value system.

Experience: When I am a giver, I do not expect others to change according to my value system, but am very easily able to find a way to adapt to the other person’s value system. I never expect from others to understand me, but am able to understand others. So there is never any feeling of negativity for anyone.

The Invisible Support System Of Life (Part 3)

The most important and primary influence on our relationships and making them full of love and happiness is of our own mental state. Very often, we talk very positively with people or act very sweetly with people but our mind is full of emotions like jealousy, revenge, hatred and even doubt, suspicion and insecurity. This can harm our relationships immensely and make them internally weak. Sometimes the effects of these hidden emotions don’t show up very soon but they keep harming the relationships internally, without us realizing it. So, a mind which is always light and transmitting the energy of sweetness as a form of love, contentment as a form of joy and calmness as a form of peace, gets the same energy back in all its relationships. This makes relationships full of success and free of obstacles that arise primarily from different personalities and different view-points.

Lastly, all of us live our life in this world and we play different roles. One person will play different roles of father, son, husband, brother, engineer etc. in one’s life and all these roles require different qualities and powers as well as skills and attitudes. The more the mind is calm and stable and an embodiment of the three primary virtues of peace, love and joy, the more it is focused and positive. As a result, it can not only choose the right qualities for every role but also implement them in action. Also, the mind saves a lot of its energy and can remain powerful in every situation when it is charged with positive thoughts full of these three virtues. The more powerful the mind is, the more it can take right decisions and discriminate between right and wrong easily, which is the primary key to success. So, roles benefit immensely, under the influence of the mind.

To have an open mind is to be prepared for mistakes too.

Expression: The one with an open mind is the one who is able to see things for what they are and accept them. He is able to take the lesson from each situation that happens and move forward with confidence. He never lets any situation or even his own mistake discourage him, but he is able to move forward with renewed confidence.

Experience: I am able to learn from my mistakes and be ready for the next learning too when I am able to keep my mind open. Each mistake that happens is also a beautiful teaching when I am willing to learn. With each new situation I find myself growing very beautifully within.
